Review: Arras – York

Review: Arras – York

Arras is a beautiful, fine dining restaurant based just down the road from York city centre’s busiest shopping street. I hadn’t really noticed the restaurant, even though I pass it regularly. I dined at Arras for a special occasion with my other half and his family. I’m so glad I’ve visited now though, as the food and service was incredible.

Upon entering Arras, you are greeted with modern interiors and a glamorous back-lit bar. The restaurant is light and spacious inside. Arras strive to provide interesting and thought provoking meals, which I would say they definitely achieve.

The waiter explained the three canapes which were brought to our table after we’d ordered our drinks. Homemade bread, which was olive bread on this occasion, is also brought to the table. For my first course, I decided on the mackerel risotto which was so flavoursome and presented beautifully. I loved the detail of the edible flowers.

For my second course, I opted for the pork which once again was presented stunningly on the plate and it was mouth watering just to look at, never mind eat. The mains which were ordered by the other diners I was with also looked insanely good.

Now for my favourite part of the evening – dessert. The Arras Petit Fours are amazing to look at, which are homemade and you get to choose a selection of them to enjoy for yourself. Honestly, you need to try it for yourself as it was such a unique experience for me and I loved selecting which chocolates and other homemade treats I wanted to try.

Arras is modern and exciting, offering thought provoking but well executed fine dining. The service we received was exceptional and I was extremely impressed with the food which looked and tasted incredible. I hope one day I have enough room left to be able to try out the cheese trolley, which looks brilliant.
