The Ivy York – VIP Pre-opening Evening

The Ivy York – VIP Pre-opening Evening

In late December, I was invited along to check out the brand new The Ivy York, for their VIP pre-opening evening. The Ivy has recently arrived to St Helen’s Square in York, a few doors down from the ever popular Betty’s. The all day dining venue serves delicious food and caters for local businesses, York residents, tourists and other visitors for breakfast, weekend brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. The Ivy is famous in London’s West End for attracting star names, due to the location. The restaurant opening in York has created 124 jobs and can accommodate 120 guests.

The restaurant was filled with VIP guests, press, bloggers and local businesses all enjoying socialising in the restaurants new surroundings. The interior is stunning and reflects the other beautiful details around the building. The Ivy York in St Helen’s Square has York-related images across it’s walls, showcasing all of the wonderful history which the city has to offer such as The Minster and Micklegate Bar.

As we entered the restaurant, the attentive staff hung up our coats and offered us a glass of fizz. I brought Kiel along with me as my plus one, so we found a couple of spare seats around the edge of the restaurant to have a sit down, because we had both been at work all day. The helpful staff ensured our glasses were never empty and as the evening continued, the fizz was definitely flowing. Each canapé was perfectly presented and tasted absolutely wonderful. Personally I really enjoyed the delicate steak skewers, as the meat was cooked brilliantly. The paté tasted gorgeous and both of us were really impressed.

If the canapés are anything to go by, I’m so excited to visit and try a sit down meal as the food was excellent and the presentation of each dish was stunning. The Ivy uses locally sourced food such as sausages from Masham and freshly caught cod from Whitby. From what we sampled on our visit, the food is beautiful. From looking at the menu, it is ‘affordable’, with a two course set menu for £16.50 and three courses for £21.
