Review: Sunday Roast at Impossible York

AD – Gifted | On a beautiful Sunday in August, when the sun was shining bright, we went along to Impossible in York. I was kindly invited to review, with a guest, the roast dinners at Impossible, which have recently re-launched! Also, a quick update… quite a lot has changed in my life since my last blog post. I met Tom (my fiancé) in 2020, we’re living together and then we got engaged in 2021. We’re currently buying a house and planning our wedding.

I’ve previously been to this building when it was Carluccio’s, but it was a VIP launch party which took place upstairs. I never actually properly got to see how the restaurant looked downstairs. I’m sure it’s changed a fair bit now Impossible is located there. The building is located in St Helen’s Square, which is easy to find.
The décor inside Impossible is bright, with a marble bar and white marble tables throughout one area of the restaurant. There’s also some wood tables and black tables. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff were very friendly/helpful.

As Tom was driving, he ordered a large cola. I didn’t fancy anything alcoholic, so I had a look at the mocktail menu and chose the Unicorn Juice mocktail. This mocktail was really refreshing and topped with mini pink and white marshmallows.

We ordered our Sunday Roasts and sides. I absolutely love cauliflower cheese, so that was my choice. Tom had the seasonal vegetables to himself. The cauliflower cheese was served in a dish, topped with cheese sauce, parmesan and crispy onions.

Roast Beef Rump
Tom, my fiancé, rarely gets to have a roast beef dinner so he grabbed the opportunity to have one whilst he could. He honestly didn’t regret it, as he told me that was the nicest beef he thinks he’s ever had. He said it melted in his mouth. I could tell Tom really enjoyed his sunday roast.
Slow Cooked Pork Belly
Pork is a favourite of mine, so when I spotted pork belly as an option for the roast dinners I knew that was what I needed to choose. The pork was beautifully presented on the plate, with potatoes and a HUGE Yorkshire pudding. We were also given a jug of gravy. It all genuinely tasted incredible, the pork was cooked perfectly.

Overall, we were both really impressed with the roast dinners at Impossible. Afterwards, we discussed how much we’d enjoyed our meal and £14.95 is a reasonable price for such a high quality, decent roast dinner. We agreed that it’s well worth paying a bit more than normal.
